Size/Tank: Can reach 2–3 feet (60–90 cm) in length. They are strictly pond fish and should never be kept in an aquarium. Aggression: Peaceful and social, thriving in groups. They become tame and will hand-feed. Special Needs: Require a pond of at least 1,000 gallons or more and a minimum depth of 3–4 feet to survive winter and avoid predators. Need a powerful filtration system due to the large amount of waste they produce. Lifespan: Can live 25–35 years or more.
