A domestic rabbit breed originating in Ankara, Turkey, famous for its incredibly long, soft coat of "wool" which is often used for spinning.
Angora Rabbits
Temperament: Generally calm, sweet, and docile, similar to other domestic rabbit breeds. Grooming: Extremely high-maintenance. Their coat requires daily or twice-weekly thorough brushing or blowing out to prevent immediate, painful matting. Many owners shear or clip their coats regularly. Health: Prone to "wool block" (Gastrointestinal Stasis or GI stasis) if they ingest too much of their own hair while grooming, which is life-threatening and requires immediate veterinary attention. Diet: Like all rabbits, their diet must be primarily hay (Timothy hay) to keep the GI tract moving and prevent wool block. Best for: Owners committed to intensive daily grooming.
